4 Tips when you start injection mould

When you have good idea of a great product, and you finish the design work. Now you want to make real product, most probrably you need to make plastic injection mould. As this is the most efficient solution at lowest cost.


Below are our suggestions for you at this step:


  1. Find good plastic injection partner


  • You need a plastic injection manufacturer who can also make their own mould. This way you don't need to hear the complain between injection factory and moulder.

  • The plastic injection partner should re-evaluate the part structure and provide their proposals from product viewpoint. Most of time a good product design is very difficult for manufacturer, thus cost higher. The injection partner should provide solution to achieve the highest product value under reasonable manufacturing process.

  • The plastic injection partner should provide mould DFM (Design For Manufacture). With this you could find the potential problems of products. Such as shrinkage, deformation, pin gate, surface texture... Then the mould engineer will work on it and improve till you are satisfied.


  2. Before starting mould, better make 3D printing prototypes for function test


  3. After mould improvement


  The plastic injection process is complicated, therefore there are always need mould improvement after first mould trial. The injection engineer can get many information from the trial samples, then improvement the mould accordingly. The process can take even 2 weeks. You can also make some possible changes at the same time.


  4. Mould maintance


  Good injection mould and work millions shots. But after every production order, the mould need to be checked carefully, replace some parts, protect the cavity surface, anti-rust...
